The New England Patriots sent James Morris packing Tuesday after the rookie linebacker failed a physical, according to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com.

Reiss reports that Morris sustained an injury during practice, which lead to his release.

What's particularly noteworthy, though, is that the Patriots paid Moore $20,000 ($10,000 signing bonus and $10,000 in guaranteed base salary) for four days of work. As Reiss notes, this was the third-highest investment among the team's undrafted free agents behind linebacker Cameron Gordon ($35,000) and running back Stephen Houston ($22,500).

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Morris started all 13 games for Iowa in 2013, finishing second on the team with 107 tackles, eight sacks, and four interceptions. He was the sixth player in the school's history to record 400 career tackles.

Considering the amount of money the Patriots were willing to toss his way, it's possible the team could give Morris a second chance once he recovers.
