There were 33 wide receivers taken in the 2014 NFL Draft and Missouri product L'Damian Washington wasn't one of them.
Why does Washington stand out from the hundreds of other players who didn't hear their name called over the past three days? Not because he's 6-foot-4, or the fact that he caught 10 touchdowns in 2013, or that he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. But simply because he had so much riding on being selected.
To summarize the video from Grantland, Washington lost both his parents before the age of 16 and has been bouncing around from place to place with his three brothers ever since. Making an NFL roster would give Washington the means to provide for his family.
Not all hope is lost for the speedster, however. Washington quickly signed a free-agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, giving him a chance to make his dreams a reality.
Even if you're not a Cowboys fan, it shouldn't be too hard to root for L'Damian Washington.
