The San Francisco 49ers added some muscle to their rushing attack, selecting powerful and versatile running back Carlos Hyde with the 57th pick in the draft.
Hyde drew comparisons to Frank Gore in the pre-draft process because of his tenacious running style, good balance and excellent receiving skills. Hyde blossomed in his final season at Ohio State, rushing for over 1,500 yards on 208 attempts and adding 15 rushing touchdowns (and three more through the air). The 49ers likely now have secured their successor to Gore.
Hyde is regarded as a pro-ready player, so there's no reason to expect he won't make an immediate difference in the 49ers offense.
The 49ers acquired the selection from the Dolphins, who had previously swapped second rounders with the Chargers to secure the pick.
