Terrell Davis: Mike Shanahan suffered from 'grandparent syndrome' in Washington

Terrell Davis spent his entire seven-year NFL career working under Mike Shanahan as a running back for the Denver Broncos and shared two Super Bowl victories with him.

During a recent appearance on ESPN 980, Davis said Shanahan was "a good coach" during his time with the Broncos, but something changed when he joined the Washington Redskins.

The year was 2010, Shanahan's first with the Redskins, and Davis was working as a coaching intern for the team.

"Just from my observation what I saw was a little bit, sort of the grandparent syndrome," Davis said, per Rich Tandler of CSNWashington.com. "You know how you're harder on your kids and then when your kids have kids you're not as hard on them. I felt that a little of that was how I saw Mike.

"I was at practice one day and I remember looking at practice like, wow, if we practiced like this we would start practice over. I was like, this is not the man I'm used to seeing. That's probably a small piece of what happened there."
