ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell has been placed on injured reserve, less than a week after he was hospitalized with a neck injury.

The Lions made the move Saturday along with adding Nick Whiteside to the active roster from the practice squad and promoting edge rusher Anthony Lucas and running back Jabari Small from the practice squad.

Detroit (5-2) plays at Miami (1-6) on Sunday.

Campbell said earlier in the week that he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body.

“I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic,” Campbell said Wednesday in a statement released by the team.

Campbell was injured early in the fourth quarter of a win over Minnesota last Sunday. He was face down on the turf and not moving after hitting Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. Campbell was evaluated by medical personnel before being strapped to a board and carefully lifted onto the cart.

“Jack continues to improve, which is all great news,” coach Dan Campbell said on Friday.
