Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis," Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles said in a joint statement. "After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (i.e. 'blood thinners'). During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.

"Jalen's prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners."

The Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve Saturday following consultations with doctors and experts.

After Hurts was diagnosed with the blood clot in his calf in London, doctors advised him not to sleep before the Eagles' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as a precaution, according to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero. While Hurts was awake until early Sunday morning getting evaluated at a hospital, he was able to get some sleep after rejoining the team, Lynn told Pelissero. The quarterback completed 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown.

Hurts is expected to remain around the team and will work on his conditioning while he undergoes treatment.

Backup Tanner McKee started Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in Hurts' absence. The Eagles also have quarterbacks Cole Payton and Joe Milton on their roster.
