Head coach Sean Payton will be more heavily involved in offensive play-calling duties for the Denver Broncos on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Davis Webb has been calling Denver's plays after being promoted to offensive coordinator in the offseason. He will continue to have a significant game-planning and game-day role despite the more collaborative approach, reports Schefter.

The Broncos rank 27th in the NFL in scoring and total yards. Denver is coming off a 24-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Payton called plays during the 2025 campaign in which the Broncos went 14-3 and won the AFC West. They lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

The 62-year-old Payton recently expressed concern about the offense's attention to detail.

"I think our focus needs to be more on the specific and the detail of each play regardless (of who's calling the plays)," Payton said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. "I think Davis is very fast, very quick, and understands what we're doing. I think that the most important job I have is really evaluating the whys. I think collectively, we all, after a game, and after a four-game sample size, certainly this isn't championship football, what we see. How quickly can we correct those things?"

Webb is a former quarterback who has been with the Broncos as a coach since 2023. The 31-year-old started as a quarterbacks coach and became the offensive pass game coordinator in 2025 before his promotion to offensive coordinator.
