Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is hopeful Aaron Donald makes his season debut Monday against the New York Giants but says the decision will ultimately be up to the defensive tackle, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
Donald, who came out of retirement in late August and didn't play in the Los Angeles' season opener in Australia, was a full participant in practice Thursday.
"We are hopeful that we'll have some good work today and tomorrow and then hopefully he's feeling good enough, and if he says he's ready to go, then we'll be excited to see him," McVay explained.
McVay added that the 10-time Pro Bowler, who last played in January 2024, didn't have as many opportunities as usual to participate in team drills ahead of Week 1 due to game taking place in Australia.
The Rams not only dropped their season opener to the San Francisco 49ers but also lost reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett for at least four games due to a knee injury. McVay said Garrett is healing like "Wolverine" after undergoing surgery, though the team plans to be patient with his recovery.
Los Angeles has only started 0-2 once (2024) since 2012.
