New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown couldn't finish his debut with his new team due to an ankle injury suffered in the third quarter of Wednesday's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Brown sustained the injury when Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett appeared to land on his right ankle with his knee during an incomplete pass. Trainers attended to Brown on the field before he limped to the sideline and then headed to the locker room. He was initially listed as questionable, but New England ruled him out shortly after.
The 29-year-old caught three of his four targets for 26 yards before the injury. He also drew a 34-yard defensive pass interference penalty, which helped set up the Patriots' opening touchdown.
New England acquired Brown in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. A three-time Pro Bowl receiver, Brown was brought in to be a premier target for Drake Maye. Brown has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons
Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who also joined the team this offseason, had a disappointing debut as well. Doubs failed to catch any of his three targets, one of which was a drop that was followed by a Maye interception on the next play.
Mack Hollins was New England's leading receiver Wednesday with 51 yards on four catches.
