Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said Monday that he feels good about Jeremiyah Love's chances of playing in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.
The running back suffered a high ankle sprain in his preseason debut against the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 13.
The Cardinals drafted Love third overall, making him the highest-drafted running back since Saquon Barkley was taken with the second pick in 2018. Love is expected to be a prominent piece of an Arizona offense that will start veteran Jacoby Brissett at quarterback.
If Love isn't ready for Week 1, Tyler Allgeier would be slated to receive the bulk of the team's workload. The Cardinals signed Allgeier to a two-year, $12.25-million contract this offseason after he produced 2,876 rushing yards across his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
