NFL commissioner Roger Goodell finalized a new four-year contract extension that runs through the 2030 season, the league announced Sunday.
The league's compensation committee notified team owners of Goodell's new deal earlier Sunday.
"The agreement is heavily performance-based, with more than 95% of the total compensation tied to Roger's and the NFL's performance measured against various metrics and at the discretion of the compensation committee," said New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft in a memo issued to the owners, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 67-year-old Goodell has served as NFL commissioner since 2006, when he took over for Paul Tagliabue.
Goodell will be 72 when his new deal officially expires March 31, 2031.
The NFL has soared to new heights under Goodell's leadership, with franchises selling for record prices and the league expanding its international series into Australia, Brazil, France, and Ireland, among other countries.
