The Seattle Seahawks and star cornerback Devon Witherspoon have agreed to a four-year, $132-million contract extension, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Witherspoon's new deal includes $101 million guaranteed and makes the 25-year-old the highest-paid cornerback in league history, Schefter adds.
The Illinois product will earn an average of $33 million per season, topping Denzel Ward's $31.1 million average per year salary, according to Over the Cap.
Witherspoon has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three campaigns with the Seahawks. He was an integral piece in a defensive unit that won Super Bowl LX last season.
The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back has recorded 32 passes defensed, 16 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions over 43 games.
Seattle have fulfilled intentions to reward their 2023 draft picks. The Seahawks made reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba the league's highest-paid receiver in March. Nearly six months later, they reward Witherspoon with a lucrative extension.
Witherspoon, who had two years remaining on his rookie deal, is expected to lead a defensive back group that also features Nick Emmanwori and Terrion Arnold. Arnold is reportedly set to sign with the Seahawks despite facing eight felony charges.
