San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday that he intends to be on the sideline for the team's preseason opener Thursday against the Tennessee Titans.
"As far as the important stuff, I feel it's about 100%," Shanahan said, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "The biggest thing I have learned with this stuff is just when you deal with fatigue and headaches ... is if I do everything, I kind of pay for it in some ways later. That's like the routine that I found out. I really tried to eliminate stuff that I would say just the fake work stuff."
Shanahan's participation at the start of training camp has been limited after he suffered a concussion, three broken ribs, and a broken left hand in a July 14 car crash. The 46-year-old, who took the blame for the accident, said he's been at full strength and is getting close to returning to his usual coaching routine.
"My head feels so much better," Shanahan said. "Concussions do linger a little bit. All the things I really deal with now is just headaches and fatigue, but that's why I'm not always exactly in the same routine, but pretty damn close."
San Francisco will play three preseason games from Aug. 13-27 before kicking off its regular season against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia on Sept. 10.
