Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart hyperextended his knee and will receive treatment, head coach Zac Taylor announced Thursday.
"Fortunately, he avoided a major injury. So he hyperextended his knee. It'll be several weeks," Taylor said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer's Kelsey Conway. "Hard to pinpoint exactly how much into training camp that'll be, but very fortunate, because it obviously looked bad. ... The good news is, we'll be getting him back sooner rather than later."
Stewart is believed to have avoided any ligament damage, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.
Stewart was carted off the practice field Wednesday after suffering a leg injury during the first day of training camp. He was spotted wearing a protective brace on his left leg and using crutches after the incident, according to ESPN's Ben Baby.
The Bengals selected Stewart with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2025 draft. The 22-year-old pass-rusher missed nine games in his rookie campaign due to an ankle injury. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury late in the year.
The Texas A&M product recorded 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack in 2025. He's expected to be part of a Cincinnati edge rush rotation that features Boye Mafe, Myles Murphy, and rookie Cashius Howell.
