Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice underwent a cleanup procedure on his right knee, just one week before being sentenced to 30 days in jail for a probation violation, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Rice's surgery removed loose debris that caused knee inflammation and carries a recovery timeline of two months, Schefter adds. He reportedly has no structural damage.

On Tuesday, Rice was ordered to serve 30 days in jail after testing positive for marijuana, which violated his probation for his role in a 2024 crash in Dallas that injured multiple people.

The Chiefs wideout elected to have surgery before knowing he'd be sentenced, Schefter adds. Though Rice is reportedly expected to be ready for training camp, his time in jail will prevent him from receiving the medical attention and rehab needed to expedite his recovery.

Rice's knee injury dates back to the 2024 season, when he collided with quarterback and teammate Patrick Mahomes.
