Report: Saints make splash with Etienne, Edwards signings
The New Orleans Saints made two marquee signings on the first day of the NFL's legal tampering period.
The Saints are signing running back Travis Etienne to a four-year, $52-million deal, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Additionally, former Buffalo Bills offensive guard David Edwards is inking a four-year, $61-million contract with New Orleans, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Tight end Noah Fant signed a two-year deal with the Saints later Monday, reported NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Rapoport.
A Louisiana native, Etienne joins the Saints after rushing for 1,107 yards with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He also scored 13 total touchdowns - seven on the ground and six as a receiver.
He profiles similarly to Alvin Kamara, who's under contract through 2026 but has an uncertain future in New Orleans. Kamara, 30, averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry last season and carries a $10.4-million cap hit next season, per Over the Cap.
Etienne was selected in the first round of the 2021 draft and has compiled 5,136 yards from scrimmage over his four-year career.
