Fastest 40-yard dash times for RBs, WRs, QBs at 2026 combine
Some of the most electric 2026 draft prospects ran the 40-yard dash Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, with running backs, quarterbacks, and wide receivers in action at the NFL Scouting Combine.
This year's combine was billed as one of the fastest groups of prospects ever, and the marquee positions didn't disappoint. Here are the top times from each of the three position groups that participated Saturday:
Running backs:
| Rank | Player | School | Time (seconds) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mike Washington Jr. | Arkansas | 4.33 |
| 2 | Jeremiyah Love | Notre Dame | 4.36 |
| 3 | Demond Claiborne | Wake Forest | 4.37 |
| 4 | Jam Miller | Alabama | 4.42 |
| 5 | Eli Heidenreich | Navy | 4.44 |
| T6 | Seth McGowan | Kentucky | 4.49 |
| T6 | Jadarian Price | Notre Dame | 4.49 |
| 8 | Adam Randall | Clemson | 4.50 |
| 9 | Robert Henry Jr. | Texas-San Antonio | 4.52 |
| 10 | Emmett Johnson | Nebraska | 4.56 |
Washington bolstered his stock by posting the fastest time among running backs. Love, the group's top prospect and a potential top-10 pick, came in right behind him. He clocked a 1.55-second 10-yard split, tying Heidenreich for third and trailing only Washington and Miller.
Wide receivers:
| Rank | Player | School | Time (seconds) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Brenen Thompson | Mississippi State | 4.26 |
| 2 | Zavion Thomas | LSU | 4.28 |
| 3 | Deion Burks | Oklahoma | 4.30 |
| 4 | Jeff Caldwell | Cincinnati | 4.31 |
| 5 | Bryce Lance | North Dakota State | 4.34 |
| T6 | Zachariah Branch | Georgia | 4.35 |
| T6 | Eric Rivers | Georgia Tech | 4.35 |
| 8 | De'Zhaun Stribling | Ole Miss | 4.36 |
| T9 | Malik Benson | Oregon | 4.37 |
| T9 | Chris Brazzell II | Tennessee | 4.37 |
Thompson will leave Indianapolis with the fastest 40 of anyone at the combine, as offensive linemen are the only players left to work out Sunday. The Mississippi State product's 4.26 tied the fifth-fastest dash in combine history. The record belongs to Xavier Worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs, who posted a 4.21 in 2024.
Quarterbacks:
| Rank | Player | School | Time (seconds) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Taylen Green | Arkansas | 4.36 |
| 2 | Haynes King | Georgia Tech | 4.46 |
| 3 | Cole Payton | North Dakota State | 4.56 |
| 4 | Sawyer Robertson | Baylor | 4.64 |
| 5 | Jalon Daniels | Kansas | 4.65 |
| 6 | Luke Altmyer | Illinois | 4.72 |
| 7 | Joe Fagnano | Connecticut | 4.83 |
Green also had the highest vertical jump (43.5 inches) and broad jump (11 feet, 2 inches) among quarterbacks. His athletic scores could result in teams asking him to work out as a wide receiver as the predraft process continues. Only seven of the 16 invited quarterbacks ran the 40, none of whom are projected to be high picks.
