Thielen announces retirement after 13-year NFL career
Veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday.
"What a ride it has been! 13 years, what a blessing," Thielen wrote in an Instagram story obtained by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "(I) have been blessed with so many great relationships and mentors over the years that I am forever grateful for. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through the years. It has meant everything to my family and I."
Thielen, who spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota Vikings after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2013, ended his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.
Thielen's final game was the Steelers' wild-card loss to the Houston Texans on Monday, during which he caught two passes for 25 yards.
The Minnesota State product emerged as a staple of the Vikings' passing game in 2016, his third campaign with the club. He recorded 6,751 yards and 55 touchdowns on 542 receptions and was named a Pro Bowler twice in 10 seasons with the Vikings.
Thielen spent two seasons with the Carolina Panthers before being re-acquired by the Vikings in a trade in August. Minnesota then waived the veteran receiver in December to give him an opportunity to compete in the playoffs.
Thielen walks away after registering 704 catches, 8,497 receiving yards, and 65 total TDs during his career.
