Report: Commanders part ways with OC Kingsbury, DC Whitt
The Washington Commanders will be searching for both an offensive and defensive coordinator this offseason.
Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is leaving the franchise to pursue other opportunities, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. is reportedly also out.
Kingsbury met with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn on Tuesday before the two sides mutually agreed to part ways, according to Schefter.
Kingsbury has head coaching interest and is expected to have multiple options for offensive coordinator vacancies, reports NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The 46-year-old has been Washington's coordinator for two seasons. His offense electrified the NFL in 2024, ranking fifth in points scored as quarterback Jayden Daniels won Offensive Rookie of the Year. However, Kingsbury's follow-up campaign was a disappointment. The unit's average points per game dropped by more than a touchdown, falling from 28.5 to 20.9. Daniels struggled to stay healthy, and Marcus Mariota and Josh Johnson combined for 10 starts under center.
Whitt also joined the franchise in 2024, and the defense also regressed in 2025, falling from 18th in points allowed to 27th. The 47-year-old did not finish the season as the defensive play-caller; Quinn took over the role in November.
After reaching the conference title game last year, the Commanders were one of the NFL's biggest disappointments this season, producing a 5-12 record.
