Belichick 'focused on Wake Forest,' not Giants' vacancy
North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick downplayed rumors linking him to the open New York Giants' job, saying he remains committed to the Tar Heels.
"Getting ready for Wake Forest. That's all I got this week," Belichick said Tuesday when asked about the Giants' new vacancy, according to ESPN's Andrea Adelson.
Belichick has been speculated as a potential candidate to replace Brian Daboll, whom the Giants fired Monday after his three-plus seasons with the team.
The 73-year-old Belichick won two Super Bowls as New York's defensive coordinator in 1986 and 1990. He joined North Carolina following the 2024 season after parting ways with the New England Patriots in January of that year. Belichick spent 24 seasons in New England, where he won six additional Lombardi Trophies.
"I've been asked about it from time to time," Belichick said of the rumors. "Look, I've been down this road before. I'm focused on Wake Forest, that's it. That's my commitment to this team. This week, it's Wake Forest. Next week, it's that opponent and so forth. I'm here to do the best for this team."
Seeking its third straight win, North Carolina visits Wake Forest on Saturday. The Tar Heels began the 2025 season 2-5 but are coming off victories over Syracuse and Stanford.
