New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle in the second quarter of Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The rookie will undergo surgery Sunday night after initially being taken to the hospital for further evaluation, the team said.

Skattebo went down after trying to make a catch and getting tackled in the middle of the field. He was carted to the locker room with his right ankle in an air cast.

Skattebo's teammates on the field immediately reacted to his injury and, moments later, showed support for the tailback.

Skattebo caught an 18-yard touchdown during the first quarter.

The 23-year-old, whom the Giants drafted in the fourth round in April, had rushed for 398 yards (4.1 per carry) while scoring six total touchdowns entering Sunday.

Skattebo's injury is another major blow to the Giants, who also lost star receiver Malik Nabers to a torn ACL in September.
