Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris will play Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil, head coach Jim Harbaugh announced Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper.

Harris' status for Week 1 had been uncertain due to an eye injury sustained during a fireworks mishap that sidelined him for all of training camp.

Harbaugh also mentioned that he's unsure of what Harris' workload will be against the Chiefs. The 27-year-old was cleared for contact Monday.

The Chargers' backfield also contains Omarion Hampton, whom the team drafted in the first round in April.

Harris signed with the Chargers this offseason after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a four-year starter in Pittsburgh, racking up 4,312 yards and 28 touchdowns. He registered over 1,000 yards in each of his four years, with his best output coming as a rookie when he totaled 1,200 yards on the ground.
