Cowboys' Lamb to use Eagles' Super Bowl ceremony as 'motivation'
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb told reporters that he's going to watch the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl banner ceremony before the teams face off Thursday.
"Motivation," Lamb said Sunday when asked why he wants to observe the pregame celebration.
He added, "Shoutout to them (the Eagles) for that ... cause I still got brothers over there. It's not really anything personal, but it's something that I'm chasing."
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Tuesday that his players won't be on the field during the ceremony, according to ESPN's Tim McManus.
The Cowboys selected Lamb in the first round of the 2020 draft, and he's led the team in receiving yards each of the last four years. However, Dallas hasn't generated much playoff success in Lamb's tenure, going 1-3 in postseason games.
The league's season-opening matchup will renew one of the NFL's biggest rivalries. The Cowboys and Eagles have met 132 times, with Dallas winning the overall matchup 74-58, according to The Football Database. Philadelphia has won four of the last six games, including both contests last season.
"We gotta go out there and match their energy, if not have them match our energy." Lamb said. "I mean, everybody's going to have a lot of excitement. It's the first game. ... But then again, we also gotta realize that everything is not going to be perfect Week 1."
The Cowboys have dominated headlines after owner and general manager Jerry Jones dealt star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last Thursday.
"Honestly, it sucked," Lamb said of the trade. "A lot of people on the team were really close with Micah, and he was really good with a lot of people."
Lamb added, "He will be missed - for sure by me."
Lamb has earned four Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro nomination during his five-year NFL run. The 26-year-old has recorded 496 catches for 6,339 yards and 38 touchdowns in 81 career games.
