Jets' Hall: Coach Glenn called to shut down trade rumors
New York Jets running back Breece Hall was aware of the trade rumors surrounding him this offseason, but he says he's ready to move forward after getting a reassuring phone call from head coach Aaron Glenn.
"I was seeing it just like everybody else was seeing it," Hall told reporters Wednesday at Jets minicamp, according to team reporter Jack Bell. "But as I said, if people feel like you're not doing your job, you're going to be replaced. It didn't happen. I'm here."
The 24-year-old added it "meant a lot" to receive a call from his new head coach to dispel the speculation.
"AG called me and told me: 'Breece, you think I want to trade you?'" Hall said. "And I was like, 'I don't know.' He's like, 'Breece, I don't want to trade you. I want you to be here. You're going to be here; you're our running back.'"
The former second-round pick had a down year in 2024, his third NFL season. Hall totaled 876 yards and five touchdowns, averaging a career-low 4.2 yards per carry. He had only one 100-yard performance and ranked 19th among running backs in total touches after finishing seventh in that category the year prior.
Hall is set to compete this summer with second-year rushers Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis for the Jets' No. 1 job.
"I got to prove that I am the guy. That's every day. I feel like my skill set, I'm a three-down back," Hall said. "We have a great running back room and a lot of healthy competition. But my mentality is every day, I'm going to prove that I am the best back on this roster, one of the best backs in the league."
