QB Jordan Rodgers, brother of Aaron Rodgers, released by Buccaneers

Quarterback Jordan Rodgers' attempt to follow in his older brother Aaron's footsteps and play in the NFL took another blow on Wednesday when he was released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad.

Rodgers led Vanderbilt to two consecutive bowl appearances as starting quarterback in 2011 and 2012. After failing to secure a roster spot with the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, Rodgers was signed early in October after the Buccaneers released Josh Freeman. At the time, Tampa Bay head coach Greg Schiano praised his "good bloodlines" and added, "there's something about him. He's a competitor. ... He's a fiery guy."

As of Wednesday, that fire will have to find somewhere else to burn.
