Report: Saints' Haener to miss time with oblique strain
New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener sustained an oblique strain and is expected to miss a couple of weeks, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Haener was injured Wednesday while throwing extra passes at practice, Schefter adds. He reportedly underwent an MRI that revealed the strain, which won't require surgery, and will likely be out until training camp.
Haener is one of three quarterbacks - along with Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough - competing to be the team's starter after Derek Carr retired May 10 due to a shoulder injury.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore said Thursday that Rattler and Shough were rotating with the starters, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. Haener also took snaps with the starters before his injury.
Haener played eight games last season, recording 226 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
