Seahawks' Emmanwori will wear No. 3 to honor Russell Wilson
Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmanwori is paying homage to the team's former quarterback, Russell Wilson, by wearing No. 3.
"(Wilson) did a lot for this organization," Emmanwori said Friday, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordan. "He did everything he could. So, I'm gonna do what I can in this number and make it special on defense in my own way."
The Seahawks selected Wilson in the 2012 NFL Draft, and he played for the club for ten seasons. They won a Super Bowl in Wilson's second year under center and made it to another in his third. The 36-year-old was named to nine Pro Bowls during his tenure in Seattle.
Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022 and is currently the New York Giants' starting quarterback after a brief stint with Denver and another with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Emmanwori will be the first Seahawk to don the number since Wilson's departure.
"Russell Wilson's one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up with that Legion of Boom defense, you had an offense, too. Respect to Russell," Emmanwori said.
Emmanwori was the Seahawks' second-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft after they traded up to get him with the 35th pick. The South Carolina product totalled 166 solo tackles and six interceptions in his three years of college football.
