The Arizona Cardinals signed running back James Conner to a two-year contract extension Saturday, the team announced.
The deal is worth $19 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. His new reported average annual salary will rank sixth in the NFL among running backs, according to Spotrac.
Conner has been with Arizona since 2021 but was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season. He leads the team with 705 yards (4.2 per carry) and five touchdowns on the ground through 11 games this year, along with 29 receptions for 288 yards.
The 29-year-old has battled injuries and didn't play a full season in any of his first three campaigns with the Cardinals. However, Conner topped 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in 2023 while scoring a team-high nine total TDs.
Conner's 40 scrimmage TDs rank fifth in the NFL since 2021. He's also rushed for 3,279 yards and 34 touchdowns in 52 appearances for Arizona.
A 2017 third-round pick, Conner played his first four NFL seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
