The Tennessee Titans are honoring safety Jamal Adams' request to be released, his agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Adams made the request because he wanted more of an opportunity to contribute, per ESPN's Turron Davenport. His release comes on his 29th birthday.
The Titans' biggest issue with Adams was his lack of practice time, a source told Davenport. The LSU product was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list with a hip issue ahead of Tennessee's Week 6 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Adams is healthy and is looking forward to his next opportunity, Schefter reports.
The three-time Pro Bowl defensive back signed with the Titans as a free agent on a veteran minimum deal. He played just 20 snaps over three games before being placed on the reserve list, according to the Nashville Post's John Glennon.
The New York Jets selected Adams in the first round of the 2017 draft, and he was named a first-team All-Pro following the 2019 campaign. The Jets traded Adams to the Seattle Seahawks before the 2020 season in a deal that included a pair of first-round picks.
Injuries have been a concern for the veteran safety in recent years: He played just 10 contests in his final two campaigns with Seattle before the team released him in March.
Adams recorded four tackles in his brief stint in Tennessee.
