Texans' Mixon doubtful for Week 3 matchup vs. Vikings
The Houston Texans are likely to be shorthanded at running back in Week 3.
Starting tailback Joe Mixon was listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings due to an ankle injury, while backup Dameon Pierce is set to miss his second consecutive game after being ruled out with a hamstring ailment.
Cam Akers, who will be facing his former team, is expected to receive most of the carries on Sunday.
Mixon did not participate in any of the Texans' practice sessions leading up to Friday's injury designation.
The 2021 Pro Bowl tailback sustained the injury on a hip-drop tackle by Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards on Sunday Night Football. Edwards was not penalized on the play. Before leaving the game, Mixon ran for 25 yards on nine attempts and added three receptions for 25 yards.
Mixon flourished in his Texans debut, rushing for 159 yards and one touchdown with a 5.3 yards per carry average in a 29-23 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.
Dare Ogunbowale and British Brooks are options at tailback.
