Report: Chiefs reuniting with Hunt after Pacheco injury
The Kansas City Chiefs are reuniting with Kareem Hunt.
Kansas City is signing the veteran running back to its practice squad, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The move comes after starting tailback Isiah Pacheco sustained a fractured fibula that is reportedly expected to sideline him for six-to-eight weeks. With Pacheco sidelined, veteran Samaje Perine and undrafted rookie Carson Steele are the only RB options on K.C.'s active roster. The team also has running back Keaontay Ingram on the practice squad.
Hunt, 29, began his career with Kansas City in 2017 and put on a show as a third-round rookie, leading the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards (4.9 per carry) and scoring 11 scrimmage touchdowns. He then recorded 14 TDs in Year 2 but was released from the team in November 2018 after a video surfaced of him pushing and kicking a woman in a hotel.
Hunt joined the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and spent five seasons with the club. He didn't top 1,000 yards on the ground with the Browns but did amass 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns from scrimmage during the 2020 campaign. In 2023, Hunt was limited to 411 rushing yards (three per carry) while scoring nine TDs on the ground in 15 appearances.
If Hunt stays healthy and manages to join K.C.'s active roster, he could still be an interesting fit in Andy Reid's offense six years later due to his pass-catching ability.
The 2-0 Chiefs have two road games coming up, as they visit the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 and the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.
