Vikings' Addison injures ankle in win over Giants
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison sustained an ankle injury in the second half of Sunday's 28-6 win over the New York Giants.
Addison spent time in the blue medical tent on the sideline before walking to the locker room midway through the third quarter. Leading 21-3, the Vikings officially ruled him out of the contest minutes later.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said postgame that Addison's hurt ankle isn't the same injury that sidelined him for multiple weeks at training camp, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN. The wideout will be evaluated again when the team returns to Minnesota.
Addison caught three passes for 35 yards before exiting Week 1. The 2023 first-rounder stood out as a rookie last year, racking up 911 yards and 10 touchdowns on 70 receptions while appearing in all 17 games. The USC product stepped up as Minnesota's WR1 last season while replacing an injured Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson and Addison form one of the NFL's most dynamic duos. Wideout Jalen Nailor also projects to be an important part of the Vikings' offense after standing out during preseason. Nailor caught a 21-yard touchdown earlier against the Giants.
Injuries have been an issue for the Vikings, who started four different quarterbacks last season. Jefferson also missed seven games in 2023. This year, first-round rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy sustained a knee injury that'll sideline him for the 2024 campaign.
