New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh doesn't seem too concerned about whether or not edge rusher Haason Reddick will be in the lineup for Week 1.
"I don't know," Saleh told reporters when asked what his confidence level is that Reddick will be with the team for the season opener. "Honestly, I haven't really thought about it."
Reddick was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round pick in March and has yet to report to the Jets' training camp. The disgruntled pass-rusher is looking for a new contract and even requested a trade from New York two weeks ago.
The Jets released a statement the same day of the trade request, saying they will not move Reddick. He is on a three-year, $45-million contract that he signed with the Eagles in 2022 and is making less money per season than players such as Alex Highsmith and Bryce Huff.
"I think the best thing for him is to be a Jet because it's going to be a fun ride," quarterback Aaron Rodgers said earlier in August, per Evan Massey of Sports Illustrated.
Saleh announced Thursday that Rodgers and other key starters will not play in Saturday's preseason contest versus the New York Giants.
"This is a much more veteran group," Saleh said of sitting Rodgers and his starters. "It's all about reps and how many reps you need to get yourself ready to play. Are the 10 reps they get on Saturday worth another 40 reps they get between today and tomorrow? Those are the decisions we made."
The Jets kick off their season on Sept. 9 against the San Francisco 49ers.
