The Detroit Lions and New York Giants were fined $200,000 each by the NFL for multiple fights that occurred during their joint practices this week, the league confirmed Wednesday.

The NFL sent a memo to all NFL teams in July stating that fighting and unprofessional conduct in joint practices would not be tolerated.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was at the forefront of Monday's most notable skirmish, going after Lions defensive lineman Alim McNeill. Jones retaliated after seeing McNeil push down Giants center Greg Van Roten, which sparked the incident.

Jones explained the incident as needing to "stand up for your guys."

In Tuesday's practice, first-round pick Malik Nabers and Lions defensive back Kerby Joseph exchanged punches.

The Lions open their preseason against the Giants on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
