Report: Geno Smith sidelined due to knee, hip issues
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is dealing with knee and hip issues at training camp, which forced him to miss his team's last two practice sessions, a source told Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald didn't specify Smith's injuries but said Thursday that the veteran passer will undergo imaging.
"He's working through a couple things from (Tuesday). Going to get some imagining (Thursday) night. And, we'll see," Macdonald said.
Macdonald doesn't sound optimistic that the 33-year-old will be a full participant at practice Friday.
"I don't know about (Friday)," the coach added. "But we'll see what comes out of when he goes and sees the doc."
Smith was knocked to the turf by a defensive teammate Tuesday. He got up favoring his leg but still finished practice that day, notes Bell, who adds that Macdonald said that "injury protection" was the explanation for Smith not being on the practice field Wednesday.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Smith missed two games in 2023 due to a groin injury. He finished the season with 3,624 yards and 20 touchdown passes, down from 4,282 yards and 30 TDs in 2022.
The Seahawks traded for quarterback Sam Howell in March to add a new backup behind Smith. Seattle also signed veteran P.J. Walker in June.
