The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Washington offensive tackle Troy Fautanu with the 20th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fautanu spent most of his college career at left tackle but is believed to have potential position versatility at guard or center.

The 21-year-old could be a long-term replacement for left tackle Dan Moore, who's a free agent after 2024.

Fautanu is the second straight first-round offensive lineman taken by general manager Omar Khan. Pittsburgh traded up to take right tackle Broderick Jones at No. 14 last season.

Fautanu grew up a Steelers fan, and his favorite player was Troy Polamalu, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Pre-draft profile

Fautanu was the leader of Washington's award-winning offensive line. Movement skills are his calling card up front, as he's one of the most naturally gifted athletes at the position this year. He's not just a finesse player, though; Fautanu also wins with impressive hand work in pass protection, and he goes about his business with a nasty play demeanor. While he should have every opportunity to stick at tackle, his skill set could also make him a strong fit at guard. With time to develop more lower-body strength to sustain blocks, along with a slightly more measured approach to pass protection, Fautanu has a path to becoming a Pro Bowler at either position.
