Commanders release Thomas, Leno
The Washington Commanders announced Friday they released tight end Logan Thomas and offensive tackle Charles Leno.
Cutting Thomas provides the Commanders with $6.5 million in cap savings, according to Over The Cap. Leno's release brings another $7.3 million in cap savings.
Thomas played the last four seasons for Washington, totaling 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best year came in 2020 - his first campaign with the team - when he recorded 670 yards and six scores.
His final year in Washington saw him haul in 55 throws for 496 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Leno spent the last three years with the Commanders. He started all 47 games he appeared in.
Washington is also expected to cut center Nick Gates at the start of the new league year, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 28-year-old offensive lineman signed a three-year, $16.5-million contract last March. He made 10 starts in 13 games in 2023.
