Report: Chargers' Williams out for season with torn ACL

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams will miss the rest of the season after an MRI confirmed he tore his ACL, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Williams was carted to the locker room after being taken down awkwardly on a tackle in the third quarter of Sunday's 28-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. He was ruled out shortly after.

The veteran wideout was off to the best start of his seven-year career. He averaged 83 yards and 6.3 receptions - both career highs. Williams also accumulated 19 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown.

Los Angeles will now look to Joshua Palmer and first-round rookie Quentin Johnston to step up. Palmer has caught eight passes for 83 yards and a score, while Johnston has reeled in five balls for 26 yards in limited playing time. Palmer set career highs last year in receptions (72) and receiving yards (769).

Keenan Allen, the Chargers' top wideout, has the most catches in the NFL this season (32) and leads the club in receiving yards (402).
