Prescott lauds McCarthy-led offense: 'System that's not out there'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott likes what he's seen from the team's offense this offseason with head coach Mike McCarthy calling plays.

"This is the 'Texas Coast,'" Prescott said Wednesday, according to NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman. "We just renamed that, the quarterbacks. It's got definitely some West Coast principles but has a little bit of what we've done in the past and just marrying them together with a lot of detail and maybe in a sense, a system that's not out there."

Ahead of his fourth year in Dallas, McCarthy took over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who left for the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason. The 59-year-old McCarthy hasn't called offensive plays since his last season with the Green Bay Packers in 2018. Dallas also named Brian Schottenheimer its new OC to help build the offense.

McCarthy said in March that ball security and possession will be one of his main priorities in 2023, adding his plan is to "run the damn ball."

Several Cowboys players have praised the club's offensive unit so far, including second-year tight end Jake Ferguson.

"I'm a power guy," Ferguson said, according to Schuyler Dixon of The Associated Press. "I love running power and having power, and this really fires me up. The whole front seven, the tight ends, and the O-line, I think we're a lot more connected right now."

The Cowboys, who owned NFL's fourth-highest scoring offense in 2022, have posted a 12-5 record in each of the last two seasons but won just one playoff game.
