The Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans for a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round selection, the Cowboys announced Sunday.

Houston will also pay $6 million of Cooks' $18-million salary in 2023, per the Dallas Morning News' Michael Gelken.

Cooks spent the last three seasons with the Texans and publicly requested a trade out of Houston.

The 29-year-old recorded 57 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games last year. Cooks has accumulated 8,616 yards and 49 touchdowns on 630 receptions over his nine-year career.

Cooks will likely become Dallas' No. 2 wide receiver behind Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb, who's coming off a career-best season with 1,359 yards and nine scores.

Quarterback Dak Prescott should appreciate an upgraded, reliable second option in the passing offense, particularly with tight end Dalton Schultz still a free agent. Schultz finished second on the team in receiving production in 2022 with 577 yards and five touchdowns.

The New Orleans Saints drafted Cooks in the first round in 2014. He's also spent time with New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams over his career.

The deal ties Cooks with Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson for the most times traded in NFL history, with four.
