The New Orleans Saints and wide receiver Michael Thomas have made progress on a contract extension, sources told Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.
The deal hasn't been finalized yet, Underhill adds.
Thomas previously inked a five-year, $96.25-million pact with New Orleans in 2019. The 30-year-old has appeared in only 10 regular-season games over the last three seasons, including three in 2022.
The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year caught only 16 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns last season. He owns the record for most receptions in a single season, registering 149 catches in 2019.
The Saints, who currently have the second-worst salary cap situation in the NFL, recently restructured the contracts of linebacker Demario Davis and tight end Taysom Hill to open up $12 million in cap space. New Orleans has also signed quarterback Derek Carr to a four-year contract that reportedly contains $100 million in total guarantees.
