Jerry drops chances of Cowboys signing OBJ for playoff push

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed pessimism Saturday that free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will sign with the team for a playoff push.

"It's not realistic to think about having him in a meaningful way for the playoffs," Jones told reporters after the Cowboys earned a 40-34 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota. "Now, that's not dismissing the future."

Jones said less than two weeks ago that there was a "good chance" Beckham would sign with the Cowboys for the final stretch of the season. He changed his tune days later, though, saying Dec. 20 that the chances of Beckham joining the Cowboys were diminishing each day.

Beckham hasn't played since Super Bowl LVI when he tore his ACL while suiting up for the Los Angeles Rams. He's taken visits to the Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants ahead of his anticipated return, while the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly also been in contact with him.

The 30-year-old Beckham caught 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the 2021 playoffs. The three-time Pro Bowler posted 27 receptions for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games with the Rams last season after coming over from the Cleveland Browns.
