Report: Lions view Goff as starting QB of future
The Detroit Lions don't view Jared Goff as a transitional quarterback.
Goff is believed to be the team's starting quarterback heading into 2023, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Lions plan to hold on to Goff for the future and don't view him as a bridge quarterback, Rapoport adds.
The Lions have been viewed as a potential quarterback landing spot in the 2023 NFL Draft. The franchise owns the Los Angeles Rams' first-round pick, which is currently slotted in the top five.
Detroit has the choice to escape Goff's contract in 2023 for the cost of a $10-million dead cap hit, per Spotrac. The 28-year-old carries a $20.65-million salary next season.
Goff has led the Lions to a 5-7 record in his second season with the franchise. The signal-caller is in the midst of an impressive four-game stretch in which he's thrown for five touchdowns to zero interceptions. Detroit has also won three of four during that span.
