Rams place Stafford on IR with neck injury

The Los Angeles Rams placed quarterback Matthew Stafford on injured reserve Saturday, the team announced.

With six weeks left in the season and the 3-8 Rams out of the playoff picture, Stafford could miss the remainder of the campaign. Players placed on injured reserve must remain sidelined for at least four weeks.

The 34-year-old missed last Sunday's game after landing on the concussion protocol. He cleared the protocol this week, but Rams head coach Sean McVay ruled Stafford out of Sunday's contest against the Seattle Seahawks with a neck injury, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

Stafford was also in the concussion protocol when he missed Los Angeles' Week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The one-time Pro Bowler, who helped the Rams win the Super Bowl last season in his first year with the team, passed for only 2,087 yards and 10 touchdowns against eight interceptions through nine appearances in 2022.

John Wolford will make his second start of the season versus the Seahawks. Bryce Perkins replaced Stafford last week in the 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Stafford joined L.A. in a trade from the Detroit Lions, who own the Rams' first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Detroit has a 49.7% chance of earning a top-five selection next year, according to ESPN.
