Report: Packers pursued Waller, Claypool, Moore ahead of trade deadline
Despite a lack of activity, the Green Bay Packers reportedly tried to make a splash at the trade deadline.
The Packers aggressively pursued a move for Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller in the lead-up to Tuesday's cutoff, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Green Bay also reportedly targeted former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, as well as D.J. Moore from the Carolina Panthers. It offered a first-round pick for Moore, reports Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.
The Raiders deemed Waller too valuable to trade after penning him to a three-year, $51-million extension in September, according to Rapoport and Pelissero.
Pittsburgh ultimately shipped Claypool to the Chicago Bears, reportedly preferring their second-round pick, while Carolina elected against dealing the 25-year-old Moore.
The Packers have been criticized for failing to provide two-time reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers enough help offensively. Their quiet deadline drew increased scrutiny thanks to their NFC North rivals' moves, including the Minnesota Vikings' acquisition of 2020 Pro Bowler T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions.
Green Bay enters its Week 9 clash against Detroit on a four-game losing streak.
