Wilson won't play vs. Jets due to hamstring injury
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson will miss Sunday's game against the New York Jets due to a hamstring injury, the team announced.
Wilson pushed to play, but head coach Nathaniel Hackett opted to hold out the veteran to allow him "to heal and prevent a lingering injury," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Brett Rypien will start the Week 7 matchup.
Denver will reevaluate Wilson's injury this week to determine if he can play in a London matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday, Schefter added.
The Pro Bowl signal-caller has struggled in his first season with the Broncos following a blockbuster offseason trade from the Seattle Seahawks.
The AFC West club sits at 2-4 through six weeks and owns the worst offense in the league (15.2 points per game). Wilson has thrown for 1,442 yards and just five touchdowns against three interceptions. His 58.6% completion percentage would be by far his worst career mark.
It will be the second career start for Rypien, who joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He led Denver to victory over the Jets in 2020.
