Patriots' Hoyer lands on IR, out at least 4 games
Hoyer started in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers with Mac Jones out due to an ankle ailment, but he left the game due to a concussion. The IR designation means Hoyer will miss at least 4 games.
The 15-year veteran completed 5 of 6 passes for 37 yards before exiting against the Packers. Rookie Bailey Zappe took over in Hoyer's absence and is slated to be the Patriots' primary backup while Hoyer recovers. The 23-year-old will likely start Sunday's Week 5 game against the Detroit Lions if Jones can't play.
Hoyer, 36, will miss games against the Lions, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears, as well as the Patriots' first matchup against the division-rival New York Jets. He'll be eligible to return for New England's Week 9 contest against the Indianapolis Colts.
