The Los Angeles Chargers can't catch a break.

Pro Bowl pass-rusher Joey Bosa will be placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, head coach Brandon Staley announced Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Daniel Propper.

Bosa will undergo surgery but is expected to return this season. Players placed on injured reserve must remain sidelined for at least four weeks.

The star defender left Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after being hurt in the first quarter. Staley said Monday that Bosa was considered week-to-week.

The 27-year-old is an instrumental piece of Los Angeles' defense. Bosa, who led the team with 10.5 sacks last year, racked up six tackles, 1.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, and one forced fumble through the first two games this year.

The Ohio State product ranks seventh in the NFL with 59.5 sacks since entering the league as the third overall pick in 2016.

With Bosa sidelined, veteran Kyle Van Noy will likely start on the edge opposite Khalil Mack, who leads L.A. with four sacks this campaign. Second-year defender Chris Rumph II is also expected to see more snaps.

Injuries have already been a big factor for the 1-2 Chargers in 2022. The team recently lost top offensive tackle Rashawn Slater to a season-ending biceps injury, and quarterback Justin Herbert has been dealing with a ribs ailment.

Additionally, wide receiver Keenan Allen, cornerback J.C. Jackson, and center Corey Linsley all missed Week 3 due to injuries.
