Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane believes the Washington Commanders were out of line for swooping in to re-sign J.D. McKissic after the Bills thought they had an agreement with the free-agent running back.
It was reported that McKissic had signed a two-year, $7-million deal with Buffalo on Tuesday. However, he backed out of the pact Wednesday and instead chose to re-sign with the Commanders for the same terms.
Bills GM Brandon Beane is not happy with the Commanders over the J.D. McKissic ordeal😳.

“Once you have an agreement, the agent is supposed to say, 'It’s over.' And this agent did that. And this agent told the other club it's over. But the other club didn’t back off.” pic.twitter.com/3kj3rWBa9D
"(McKissic's) agent did a great job," Beane said, per Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. He added, "There were some things that went down with the other organization, which was painful, but they chose to do what they did, and I couldn't stop it."
The Commanders reportedly didn't submit an offer to McKissic until he had a deal in place with the Bills.
Beane explained that once an agreement is in place, the agent should discourage other teams from making last-minute desperation offers. The Bills general manager added that McKissic's agent did do that, but it still wasn't enough.
"Once you have an agreement, the agent is supposed to say it's over, and this agent did that," Beane noted. "This agent told the other club it's over, but the other club didn't back off."
Beane said the incident will complicate his relationship with the Commanders.
