Cowboys to wear National Medal of Honor tribute helmets vs. Broncos

Callena Williams / Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will pay tribute to National Medal of Honor recipients by adding a red stripe to the traditional blue and white stripes on their helmets, the team announced.

Dallas will wear the helmets during the NFL's Salute to Service game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The helmets are a throwback to ones worn in the 1976 season when they commemorated the United States Bicentennial.

"The red stripe on the helmet provides a beautiful ribbon to wrap around this salute to those who currently serve our country's military - and the patriotic love and appreciation that we all share for those who came before them," said Cowboys executive vice president Charlotte Jones in a statement.

Both teams will also wear Medal of Honor decals on their helmets to recognize the National Medal of Honor Museum opening in 2024.
